Connecting Writing with Agriculture and Life Sciences
Trail description
In Connecting Writing with Agriculture and Life Sciences, students explore the power
of writing to communicate ideas in agriculture and the life sciences. This trail blends
scientific fact with creative writing through a special emphasis on storytelling and
fiction, equipping students with the tools to craft compelling narratives that engage
broad audiences in issues of scientific importance. Through a mix of lectures, readings,
and writing exercises, participants will learn about the most diverse organisms on
the planet and how to share complex agricultural and life science concepts with accessible,
evocative stories. From creating fact-based articles and essays to weaving fictional
worlds that reflect scientific challenges, students will develop an understanding
of agriculture and the life sciences and the art of scientific communication. Ideal
for aspiring writers, people interested in agricultural, scientific, and environmental
issues, nature enthusiasts, and anyone passionate about using stories to inspire others,
this certificate program will foster a new generation of storytellers and science
communicators ready to give voice to nature’s most pressing narratives.
