Ethics and Society
Trail description
Fairness and equality of opportunity are bedrock values of our society. Standing up
for these values, even when it is difficult and lonely, is crucial to the success
of our society. The Ethics and Society trail teaches students about foundational ideas in ethics and helps them apply those
ideas to situations they will encounter after they leave college. Introductory trail
courses give students the foundation they need to analyze societal issues, providing
a comprehensive understanding in both domestic and international contexts. Central
trail courses will help students apply this foundational knowledge to specific industries
and professions. They will learn how to think critically about information sources,
examine the role of religion, culture, and politics in social values, adopt a global
perspective on social problems, and translate theoretical understanding of ethics
into specific actions in various fields and industries. Culminating courses teach
students ethical leadership skills, how to navigate conflict, how to analyze and implement
political reform proposals, and how to create strategies that foster fair environments
in various professional settings.
